A Claude skill is a routine written down once: a folder with a SKILL.md file that tells Claude what the job is, when to do it and how. For a small business, the useful skills are the jobs that repeat every day and every week, done the same way on a busy Friday as on a quiet Monday: building the day's list, turning a call into tasks, drafting a proposal from your own prices, sweeping the inbox for replies you owe.
I run my own operations practice on routines like these every morning. Claude Skills for Operators is eight of them, rewritten for any small business and shown working on an invented one, so you can see the result before you install anything.
The eight best Claude skills for a small business owner
| Skill | What you get |
|---|---|
| Morning pack | Your day in one file: the one thing that matters, your deep work, what is ready to send and who is waiting on whom |
| Inbox sweep | Every reply you owe and every promise not kept in the last 21 days, with the drafts |
| Meeting to tasks | Every commitment from a call in the right tracker, one owner and a date each |
| Proposal drafter | A one-page proposal from your own prices and results, or a reply to a posted job |
| Weekly review | Planned against done, what slipped three times, and the three things next week is for |
| Voice check | Any draft held to your own voice guide, fixed, with every change listed |
| Brain dump | Outside ideas sorted into keep, conflict and drop, and the keepers applied |
| Network path | Your connections at a company, ranked by warmth, with a first message for each |
Plus five starter files (voice guide, proof points, proposal library, client tracker, decision log) and an install guide. Each skill checks its own work against those files: prices against your library, claims against your proof points, drafts against your voice guide.
What a skill looks like
Here is the top of the free one, the morning pack, and its first step. The description is what Claude matches against; the steps are what it follows.
---
name: morning-pack
description: Build the owner's morning pack. One file with the day's deep work, every message ready to send, every message that needs a check first, who is waiting on the owner, who the owner is waiting on, the day's board, and the one most valuable action. Trigger on "good morning", "morning pack", "what is on my plate", or /morning-pack at the start of a working day.

# Skill: Morning Pack
## Purpose
When the owner sits down, hand over one file. Their job becomes read, decide, copy, send. No hunting through inboxes and no assembling the day by hand.
The pack is built from what is actually in front of the assistant: the owner's files, and the email and calendar if they are connected. It never invents a task, a name, a date or a number.
## When to run
- "Good morning", "morning pack", "what is on my plate", `/morning-pack`.
- The first session of any working day.
## Step 1. Start
1. Run `date`. Use the system clock for today's date and weekday. Never assume the day.
2. Read `morning-pack-settings.md`.
3. If the folder is a git repository, run `git pull`. If not, skip it.
4. If a memory file or an index of lessons exists (for example `memory/MEMORY.md` or `CLAUDE.md`), read it.
5. Read yesterday's pack, if there is one. Anything it listed as due and not marked done carries over.
And part of what it produces, from the example that ships with it. The business, the people and the numbers are invented.

Goes out as Renata, by text. Email for the 4 with no mobile number.
Estimate log read at 07:05: still 11.

Where these sit next to Anthropic's own
Anthropic's Claude for Small Business, launched in May 2026, ships ready-made skills for payroll, bookkeeping, cash flow and marketing campaigns. Use them. These eight do a different job: the work around the work that still lands on the owner every day. Nothing here touches your books or your payroll.
What you need
- A paid Claude plan that includes Claude Code. No coding. You copy folders and talk in plain English.
- A folder with your work in it. Task lists, client notes, a tracker. If you have none, the morning pack starts one with you.
- Optional: email and calendar connected to Claude, so the inbox sweep and the morning pack see more.
Setup takes about 30 minutes for all eight and the starter files. Each skill also works on its own, so you can start with one.
What they will not do
- Send, post, book or pay. Every skill drafts, saves a file and stops. You read it and you send it.
- Invent. They work from what is in your files and your connected accounts, and say what they could not read.
- Promise you a number of hours. It depends on your week. The weekly review will show you your own.

What is a Claude skill?
A folder with a file called SKILL.md: a name, a one-line description of when to use it, and the routine written out step by step. Claude Code reads the description, and when what you say matches it, Claude loads the routine and follows it. You write the routine once and it runs the same way every time.
How do I use Claude skills?
Put the skill folder inside .claude/skills in the folder you work from, open Claude Code there, and ask for the job in plain words, like "good morning" or "turn these notes into tasks". Claude matches what you ask to the skill's description and runs it. You can also call one by name with a slash, for example /morning-pack.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You copy folders into your work folder and talk to Claude in plain English. The one exception is network path, which runs a small Python script on your LinkedIn data export; the install guide walks you through it.
What do I need?
A paid Claude plan that includes Claude Code. Email and calendar connected to Claude make the inbox sweep and the morning pack see more; without them, the skills work from your files and say what they could not read.
How are these different from Anthropic's Claude for Small Business?
Anthropic's version ships ready-made skills for payroll, bookkeeping, cash flow and campaigns. These eight cover the work around the work: the morning list, the notes after a call, the proposal, the inbox nobody has swept, the weekly review. They sit alongside each other.
Will they send emails or post for me?
No. Every skill drafts, saves the result as a file and stops. You read it and you send it.
Do they work outside Claude Code?
I build and test them in Claude Code, so that is the only place I promise they work. They use the standard SKILL.md format, so other tools that read skills may load them, but I have not tested those.
Refunds?
30 days, no questions. Reply to your receipt.

The skills are the routines. Deciding which routines your business needs first is a different job.
